cant we all just get along?
![]() Chumba makes great bikes and I will not deny it. although being truthful- they are not the best. To be realistic there is not one "best" bike because everyone is different. One bike may feel great for one guy/girl and the next may hate it. I've mentioned already that I am getting a Demo 7- right after that probably the Socom, and then the F5. Every bike feels different for people- I just happen to like spending my money on things that wont fit in my room. ![]() I ride Chumba because it just so happens that was the best fitting bike that I tested. And Chances are that I plan to have more than 1 Chumba. Then again theres about 6 bikes on my list... Like mentioned earlier, it comes down to the correct setup. The reason certain bikes are loved by many is because of a good setup mixed with a good fit IMO. Someone may hate one bike- but theres also a chance that if you swap some parts and get it dialed in, that hater just may be in love. OR maybe I am just out of my mind.... ![]()

Saying that the EVO isn't one of the plushest six inch travel bikes on the market just isn't true. At MTBR's Interbike Dirt Demo Review, the reviewer (Tscheezy) said the EVO was one of the best bikes at show.
Here are his exact words:http://forums.mtbr.com/showpost.php?p=3567398&postcount=61 This was one of the best bikes of the show. When we rode one last year we loved basically everything about it except for the ridiculously shallow seat angle. With the saddle raised to full pedaling height, we ended up about a mile behind having our knee over the pedal spindle (KOPS). The modestly steeped seat tube angle on the EVO brought things back into the realm of acceptability, though quite a bit of the rider's weight still seemed to be on the back of the bike and there was a mildly stretched out and squatty feel as the bike sagged or climbed. Not all bad though, as this made the rear end of the bike feel as plush as anything we rode. The chassis is extremely stiff and burly, and the linkage offered a very capable ride in terms of pedaling and bump compliance. The shock seemed to easily give up its first half of travel which made the bike seem to float over trail obstacles, but it still had a respectable ramp up to resist bottoming. Among the Lyrik U-Turn forks we rode, this one had the best feel to it and it complimented the EVO nicely. Overall the EVO was one of the plushest and most pleasant riding bikes at the demo that we took out and for folks looking for a laid back and flowy mannered bike, this is one to consider and one we wholeheartedly recommend. If you want something a bit more responsive and aggressive feeling, there are other options out there (presumably including the Chumba XCL which we did not ride). I am not bashing TurneRob at all (as we are friends), but I really do think at his weight, the spring rate wasn't right for him. For a demo, an air shock would have been a lot better. Australia Mountain Bike said that the EVO could outdescend any six inch bike in an all mountain shootout with Specialized and a few other bike companies, and Mountain Biking said the bike handles almost "telepathically" on the descents. Maybe Rob could try the EVO when it is set up properly for him, I think he will have a lot more fun on it.

Ha! Hi Gary. Right now we have dual lines of production for the EVO, one is in-house, and we are also going to be offering an outsourced version shortly - probably next few months.

Glad that seat tube angle got moved up a bit, it felt way too slack before. An 8 inch travel Evo would be siiiick! Can I be the official guy that crash tests the bikes? ![]()

To be fair, I also had the Evo for a week+ so I had plenty of time to set it up properly vs. a demo ride where you take what you can get. Just my $.02. Edit: To be fairer - the 6 Pack was a small and I think the short wheelbase made it a tad skittish. I should have probably been on a medium. |

Wow, I got quoted so many times I'm flattered
Jason I hope I didn't offend you by my review. I saw your bike as I was talking with Alan and asked if it was a demo bike and he told me it was. After you saw my pedals on it and got upset I asked if you would rather me not ride it Wasn't trying to start a flame war here. As I said the rear shock set up could have been the issue. I did check the preload and it had maybe half a turn, just enough to keep the spring tight in place. Anyway as I said there are obviously a lot of people buying Chumba bikes lately (just look at all the Chuba threads on here) so I know there are plenty of happy Chuba riders out there. I guess I shouldn't have cheated on my Turner that day ![]() |

I had a pretty short list of bikes I wanted to check out when I bought my XCL. The Titus MotoLite was the other "name" candidate, and for good reason; the suspension geometry is almost identical. I'm a pretty hefty guy at 220 lbs dressed to ride, so I appreciate the extra stout Chumba frame.
I'm plenty happy with mine. I don't see myself needing another bike for several years. ![]() |
