Default 29ers

So everyone seems to be freaking out about 29ers. I might be a little late to the game, but I see they have a lot of new models coming out. I was looking at the new 08 Specialized Stumpjumper full suspension 29er. It looked amazing but was heavy as hell. I'm not really interested in a single gear as I gave up BMX in the 80s. I'm 6"1 so I'm really interested in trying one out. Lets discuss.

drink the kool-aid and go. i don't know much about the Specialized, but The Path has several 29er rentals to chose from- the nice part is that your rental fee can be applied toward a bike. I'm just under 6" and the 29er wheel has made so much of a difference in riding that there's only one 26" wheeled bike left in the quiver of 5 bikes

not a problem. my dad rented an ellsworth from them- he liked it, but not as much as my seven duo (cant imagine why ) and he was going to rent a niner as well when he was still looking to get a new ride.

the TreK 69er looks very sweet!!! bUT why would u have a small rear wheel if u want to work hard on your climbs with da SS thing?

i think it's due to the idea that 26" wheels accelerate faster than 29" wheels. I'd really still like to try one- hmm- maybe convert the tituSS to a 96er....

don't flame me, y'all- the original idea of this thread wasn't to discuss the 26 vs. 29 thing...

So are the 29" wheels slower than the 26"? I would think the opposite.

well, that's where you get into issue- some people swear this is true- I've never felt it.

actually, i think that 29ers do roll better due to the larger size. 29ers supposedly get up to speed slower due to more rotational mass.

zero idea about the real science behind all of this though...
