I wonder if there is a European requirement that a bike cannot obscure the license plate. (This car has 2 rear plates.) Maybe the rack was designed because there was no other convenient way to mount a bike on a rear of a vehicle? (Yes, I know this is a stretch.)
Of course, I doubt the government would let you get 2 rear plates just because you said you needed one for your spiffy bike rack.
