This makes it interesting for the CC/VQ route now that Maple Springs is out of commission. Greg, do you know if the race will be post poned? It's not hard to picture parts of the Main Divide closed along with MS and Harding till Nov '08.

Maybe the USFS will issue a special permit to run the race on race day only??

Dang, just saw the pdf, pretty much half the race is closed.

With no Maple Springs, I wonder how this will affect CC/VQ?

Thumbs up Bummer...

But I agree with Chay that we should go ahead and keep clear, so it can recover.

We're going to also have to keep in mind to take care of what "everybody" is going to ride now.

Blackstar
Holy Jim
Trabuco
SJT

I know you guy's get the picture, let's just make sure we keep the word out to those that don't.

"With no Maple Springs, I wonder how this will affect CC/VQ?"

Hey guy's, I can think of some alternate routes that could be used, without having to get specail permison to "brake the law".

Since this just happened, I would imagine that Chris is grappling with this as I write ... we may have to lay a course out on the Holy Jim Trabuco side.... or we could do 24 laps of AW (JK). We'll come up with something.

That would be 14,000 feet of climbing... there'd be a lot of dead riders on the trails!

Just to clarify, STT is closed correct? I drove up Modjeska grade to the trailhead and saw a few trucks/car parked along the road and no sign on the gate saying it was closed. Also tripped out when I drove past the STT gate and headed down towards Harding that brown house with the big dome is completely gone. Pretty amazing to see though for the most part how close the fire came to those homes and what a great job the firefighters did saving most of the homes

I've seen a few mtb riders in the vicinity of Modjeska Grade over the past week or so, and I hope they're not poaching the burn area. Not only does that area need to recover naturally, but I have to believe that section of STT and all of Luge would be VERY dangerous to ride right now due to slide hazard.

As for VQ/CC - how about 30 trips up Big Red at Peters?

Default CC and VQ

At this point the Warrior's Society has been given the clearance by the Forestry Service to run the VQ and the CC as scheduled on our same route we use every year. Luckily we had our permits pulled for the event and we do so much work for the Forestry Service they are willing to work with us so we can have our event...Remember, they get proceeds from the event every year and they need them even more this year.

We are in negotiations with them right now to see if we can hold training days that are patrolled so riders can ride the Motorway and Silverado to help train and experience that part of the trail if they don't already know it.

So no excuses...keep training for the VQ and CC!!!!

I was in modjeska canyon today....

...and was helping out on STR's behalf for a "Plant Modjeska" fund drive. STR got mentioned on their website.

There were a few guys who lost it all. Some of them are avid Mountain Bikers...

...and one of them road STT and he said it was in really bad shape, sad in fact. Don't know if it's open, but who is going to tell him to not ride?

Anyhow, thought I would add this bit. I'm sure he would take us on a tour of the carnage...

It will come back and we do have power in our support for our fellow man and nature.

OK, I'll get off my soap box now

party on
