Wink Clips (or clipless wrather)

So, I have SPD clipless pedals and I can never seem to not fall on my butt. I have them as loose as you can get them and I even oil them. Are Crank Bros any better? Do I need to get different clips? I get all different answers depending on what shop I ask. Maybe someone has some used Crank Bros they want to part with for cheap so I can try and decide? Thanks

Look for SH-56 multirelease cleats. They help you get used to clicking out. After a while, you'll not like how loose they are and go back to the originals.

um, from experience working in bike shops fitting people, crank bros or times are not for beginners. why? a lack of spring tension adjust ability- as new, both Times and Eggs/Candies can have more tension than a SPD at full tension.

why are you falling on your azz every ride? are you forgetting that you're clipped in? shimano has two types of cleats as well- ones that require a twist horizontally to get out and ones that apparently can lift out easier.

edit: i believe that el dooderino has the right model number...

yeah, I seem to have to turn the heal so far out that if it's not just right I'm stuck in. I thought Crank Bros might be better but I guess they aren't going to be. Does a tighter shoe help?

The 56's will let you go out at an angle.

One thing that was key for me is to have downward force (i.e. weight) on the pedal before twisting out.

i prefer my crank bros. 100 times over the SPDs i used to have. a few times with the SPD a small rock or wood chip or something would get lodged in the pedal and it made for a very difficult release from the pedal....resulting in a couple cow tips.

I have not used the new ones but the older ones were junk. Screws coming loose ,needed to be cleaned and oiled before everty ride. Any if you got them wet you were screwed.

Try rotating the cleat in the shoe so it takes up most of the release slack in your normal riding position. set the angle so if it rotates slightly more it will release. Racing shoes with a plastic sole will not flex as much and be easier to release with.

the multi release cleats will help out dramatically. I've been using those cleats for years and been happy with them... about $20 at a decent shop.
