Thumbs up John @ Crank Bros.

The tension spring busted in one of my egg-beaters on Trigger last night. Pedal is like 4 years old and has taken some abuse, to say the least.

I called John and told him of my plight. This spring is not usually a wear item and when it goes it usually means the pedal has seen better days as well. Either or, he felt bad for me and is sending me some springs and stuff.

He was very nice, helpful and very thoughtful. And I never even mentioned he was one of our sponsors!

Two thumbs up for an awesome product and even better customer service.

Thumbs up Thanks

Crank Bros stands by their products. I've brought in 3 pedals with clips broken and each time they where fixed and good as new. Thanks also to Tim, Andy and Michelle for their excellent customer service.

CB has always replaced or serviced pedals. I had a beater shear off, which they replaced. Another one pair I had a spring tension issue, sent my pair in.. unfortunately they were lost for a few weeks, but they eventually sent me a free pair in return. So, I have some sweet Interbike 06 pink pedals

Knock on wood, but my Candy 4Ti's have been impeccable for nearly a year.

I've had my spring replaced as well, good customer service.

However... so many people I know have broken their CB pedals! I checked out the new Look Quartz pedals at Interbike and I'll be getting a pair as soon as they're available. No springs!

Petals? So does that mean you are a wilted flower?

One of my 4Ti Egg Beaters lost the end cap last week and I just walked into Crank Bros headquarters with it and they replaced the end cap and rebuilt the pedal on the spot for no charge. Great product and even better customer service!

My experience is the same. Solid customer service and good product. They've sent me rebuild kits no questions asked when I was sold the wrong one by a bike shop.

Also sent me a new spindle too when I bent one.

I have noticed the Candy's and Mallets I have need to be rebuilt more often. Which for me was after a couple of years of use. But the original eggs I have from 2002 are still going strong.

It's nice to hear good customer service stories.

I don't currently use Crank Brothers pedals. I'm still using Shimano SPDs. I've never had any of them break though, so I have no customer service stories to share.

...hmmm...food for thought...

Yeah, who'd want to support a local company that is really cool?

I've been thinking about switching to candy or egg beaters from the 520s or whatever I have.

So, this is food for thought.

12 unique posters on this thread so far, and 7 of them have required repair from Crank Brothers on their pedals.

I'm sure the real life ratio isn't that high, but still worrisome. Maybe when the new Mallet comes out, I'll give it a shot. I just don't want to be stuck out somewhere with a sheared off pedal.

I get Dubjay's point. No doubt, they are a great local company with nice design and industry leading customer service. But they do have a reputation for making fragile pedals that require you to use that customer service. So it's a mixed bag. Many times I've been tempted to get on a pair of CBs but my 10 year old ATAC Aliums just wont break on me. So it's kind of hard for me to jump on a pair of pedals that may break on me.

That said, one of my latest tools is made by CB and I love it. It's called the Speed Lever.

One end slips under your bead and the other telescopes down and attaches to your axle (QR only). You then rotate it around the perimeter of your rim and the bead just pops off. Typically, I like to demonstrate my manliness by ripping the tires off with my bare hands but this thing makes taking off tires feel like you're unzipping a coat. And it works great on those impossible to mount/unmount steel beaded tires.

I highly recommend it. It was like 7 bucks.

On the downside, it feels like cheap flexy plastic that might break on me... but I know CB will take care of me if it does. Also, I can't figure out a way to make it work on a 20mm t/a hub.
