I went out there again today and looked for about two hours. I made it about 1/2 mile upstream from the parking lot with no sign of the bikes (i was on the opposite side so i'm not sure if i got to the point where the bikes were last seen). I then walked downstream until i got to the houses (it becomes like a resevoir at this point with concrete on both sides). I stopped at several different places as i went down silverado but no luck.

when/if you go back there:
1) someone drive a truck and have 1 or 2 people stand up in the bed and watch the stream all the way up and back silverado...there are tons of places they could have gotten hung up and i couldnt drive and watch the stream (plus my car is too low to see over the edge)

2) I bought some good rope if you guys need it..you can never be too safe. The water is still rushing really good...it is almost clear though so you can see the bottom. This is really good for the bright red and yellow bikes.

3) Do you guys want me to make some flyers? I work tomorrow and we have large format printers so i can make some good flyers and laminate them (no cost). Lemme know what you want them to say (phone #s, descriptions...maybe a reward).

4) If they washed all the way down they'll probably be in the marshy area near blackstar...I don't really have any good ideas for searching this place, i dont think its a good idea to just start treading

5) I'll be available on sat after 3 but lemme know whats up and i'll try to skip outta class early.

OK so we have a bunch of rope and trucks covered. What strategy should we take with the stream crossing if it's still near the height that we last saw it at? I was thinking put a ladder across and crawl over the ladder? Or... ?

I'll be driving to my mom's in Mission Viejo tomorrow morning. I can take Santiago Canyon Rd and help out if you guys need it. Where's the meeting spot? I'll be in a blue F150 and probably late (I like sleep).

Once the water clears and is safer...get a pair of chest high wadders and walk the stream.

Forget the waders in moving water...they can be a bummer if you fall or step into a hole. Trust me, I almost drowned on a CCC flood-response in Calaveras.

I use jeans, rather than shorts. Jeans get wet, but will shield legs from branches, leeches, floating turds, rocks...etc... and they don't get too heavy (not the time to wear the lowrider, fatleg stuff though).

Something just hit me about the photo of the bike.

If I see a bike in a creek or down a cliff without a biker around, I would think of the worst and call 911. It never occured to him that someone might have fell with the bike? It was a blessing that nobody got hurt or was stuck on a branch downstream waiting for help or worst...

Just wondering...

It just scares me that I would fall down a cliff and someone would take a picture of my bike in a tree and continuee his merry way.

It makes me nervous to ride alone...

So I take it no one has fessed up to taking the bikes? That's pretty low if you think about it. Some knucklehead takes a bike that was found in a stream with a possibility that the owner could have been killed...buncha stupid theives!
