Here's some info on who took and posted the picture. Thanks to scott (silver spot) for letting me know.

It was posted on the team basso yahoo group site by this guy: "Willie Hunt" <willie@surefire.com>. The message:
With all this rain, I rely on pavement or Maple Springs road and the Harding Truck trail (both have enough gravel that they are barely muddy and they generally do not rut out from MTB tires) So, on Sunday I rode up from Ladd Canyon road up Silverado Canyon Road and continued past the gate up Maple Springs. At the first creek crossing there were riders saying the creek was impassable further up, yet it was not so bad right there as it was mid thigh and moderate water speed. Before reaching the second crossing I saw this:

Wow, someone was hating it! Obviously this person failed to make the water crossing further up and the bike was carried down stream. I hope this person was not seriously injured.

Anyway, I proceeded and did not have any problem crossing, but I dismounted and walked across. I also has MTB shoes with lugged rubber soles so I can get good footing. I continued up to the Main Divide, but the weather was getting bad so I went down the Harding.

Willie

I'll be in the area and will try to head up Silverado for some recon, if nothing else. Probably be there around 2:30p if anyone's interested.

From the 55 Freeway in the City of Orange, use Chapman Ave. exit. Drive east. Chapman will turn into Santiago Canyon Rd. after about 5 miles. Continue 5 more miles Silverado Canyon Rd., turn left.

Walked the area for an hour and a half today, with no sign of the bikes. Water's still running pretty high though, so who knows.

Seems my Momma raised an optimist. Guess I'll see you Saturday.

Here's an idea for Saturday. Since you were the only one in our group who came out with a bike. What we should do is spread people out along the whole stream bed, take your bike up to where I lost mine; then throw your bike in and follow it down stream to see where it ends up. Should lead us right to our bikes.

What do you think?

Default Beneath the Mystery Tire

Just thought I'd let everyone see what's sitting upside-down beneath the mystery tire in the stream.

If anyone see's it in the stream or being pedaled beneath someone on the trails, let me know.

Hopefully we'll be able to recover all three bikes this Saturday if no one has snagged them from the stream already.

I had an idea eerily similar to yours, but in my plan the bike is replaced by a small child in a life vest with a camcorder (waterproof, of course). Not very feasible, I'm afraid, but effective!

Besides, it's not like Stumpys just grow on tr...wait, scratch that.

Mavic 517 rims
Pauls Word rear hub
Syncros forged cranks
Avid Arch Supreme rear brake
Avid Single Digit front brake
XTR Levers
Thompson Seatpost
Race Face Carbon riser bars (less than 12 hours old)
Lizard Skin lock on grips
Rock shox Duke Race 70-105mm
Mangoat frame (won at the Toad Festival)

Was a real sweet SS that I wasn't afraid to beat up and abuse.

I try to be gentle with my Yo Eddy's these days since they are pretty much irreplaceable and the steel frames are prone to rust. I don't take them out in bad weather any longer.
