Default Best Bike Cities in the World

From Wired.

Makes me want to move.

Criteria
1. Engineering (bike parking, designated lanes, etc.)
2. Encouragement (events and campaigns)
3. Evaluation and Planning (ongoing political bodies that make changes to existing laws and plan for the future)
4. Education (bike maps and awareness campaigns)
5. Enforcement (making motorists heel)

Winners
1. Amsterdam
2. Portland, Oregon
3. Copenhagen
4. Boulder, Colorado
5. Davis, California
6. Sandnes, Norway
7. Tronheim, Norway
8. San Francisco, California
9. Berlin
10. Barcelona
11. Basel, Switzerland

Someone needs to put a list together of the best mountain biking cities in the world.

Crested Butte, CO
Whistler, CAN (though the area is a bit spread out between Whistler proper, Vancouver/North Shore, and Squamish).
Moab, UT

Criteria - ability to ride trails from wherever you happen to be staying in town; how good the trails are; scenery

When I was in Amsterdam, I took a picture of what I think is the same bike parking garage. That city is really structured for bikes as peoples main means of transportation. Just awesome!

wonder if bike thefts correlate to the same figures in cities where the primary mode of transport are cars.

True about Davis. It's pretty nice to be able to get anywhere on the bike. About the only time I drove my car was when it was time to come home to SoCal.

Didn't Davis do away with Public Transportation because of bikes?

Sometimes it seems like it when you're riding through one of the traffic cirles on campus. They actually have a pretty good bus system that's run by the students. When I went to school there, I worked as a bus driver.
