Default Drinking and Driving...

I love STR for many reasons! One would (surely) be the good-times that are shared AFTER our rides. One post-ride friend who shows (his face) after EVERY ride is named JOE BEER! We all love him, all talk about him, helps us with the ladies- heck we even toast to him. Joe is NOT the perfect friend. He sometimes causes us to do funny things!

For the (3rd) time in 12 months, a friend has been popped for DUI! Does that mean I hang with drunks? NO! Does that mean (according to the law) my friends did not drink responsibly? YES!

The first person (a longtime friend) knew he was OVERDUE to get one. The second (another longtime friend) pretty much the first time I ever saw them drink! The third person (a fine female), was taken-in because a JACKA$S hit her (stopped) vehicle. All three NOW get to enjoy the consequences of their decisions!

Looking back, I remember a girlfriend being hit by a drunk driver! One of my best friends (now sits in a wheelchair because the motorcycle he was cruising) was t-boned by a drunk driver. A third friend- (every birthday) I take flowers to her grave! Thank YOU Mr. Drunk Driver!

I am not trying to guilt people into drinking water instead of beer! Not trying to be STR'S "Mayor" of Morality. Not trying to get 25 THANKS!

All I ask is that you drink responsibly. Don't do it for me! Do it for your bike! I don't know of any buses that stop at Chilao, Chantry, Noble or San Juan!

Thank you for your time....

but not after every ride I like to have a beer (two at most). At 225lbs I think I am ok (under the limit)

The price is to high to drive drunk

Yep, that's why I live walking distance from the bar!

It's also the same reason I walk my bike home from the bar thursdays - how unimaginable ghey would it be to get nailed for one riding home? I know people it's happened to - I'd just as soon walk!

Bummer to hear your friends got nailed Dino. Sometimes though it's what people need to get their head straight, especially the ones that "everyone knew they had it coming"...

Andy- I was "THIS CLOSE" to ending the letter with the beer smiley... THIS close!

Timmy- There are sooo many of us...... it's bound to happen to someone we know! If this thread (i.e. our posts) is a contributing reason for someone NOT getting popped- I will have considered it worth my time!

Ah D every party needs a pooper now and then right?

But seriously, my wife got popped after having a few drinks over at the Irvine Spectrum with friends, just a mere 1.1 miles from the house. Can't beleive what a bunch of asses the Irvine PD were to her but then again it's a serious offense and she definitely learned her lesson. The price the rest of us paid, well I had to miss two days of work waiting to hear back when I could go pick her up from OC main jail. Kids went through the whole "what happened to mom" thing. Had to pick up and pay tow/storage fees for her car. Lawyer fees, court fees, penalty and fine, etc. We got dropped by our car insurance and had to pay almost 3x as much for the next three years with some rank insurance company. Then the whole guilt thing plays in her mind after attending three months of "drunk driving" classes. All in all, she did learn her lesson.

no kidding- i've been there with my wife as well- we were heading home from tustin brew when she got popped after having two beers. your story mirrors ours nearly hit for hit, with the exception of not having the kiddo at the time.

Good post and reminder Dino. I am quite often the one bringing beers to rides. I am glad to share, but drinking responsibly is the key. I would hate to see anyone get a DUI, or worse, get hurt or hurt someone else because they had a few too many at an STR event (or any event for that matter). It just ain't worth it.

she preggers? that was definitely a plus side of having a kiddo. or just because of the guilt of getting a DUI?

ah right. either that or just start partying within walking distance of home. one main reason we miss living in aliso viejo- there was so many places to get your drink on within a 10 minute walk. irvine doesnt have much like that, but El Cholo is about a 10 minute walk/stumble/crawl (not that we know anything about that...)

Good post/reminder Dino.
