One side note. I have big feet (13's) and the heel of my fiveten's rub my chainstay. My shimano SPD's are really narrow and don't. So if you are a tall guy keep that in mind. It would bug the hell out of me on a long ride.

Spec LowPro Mag pedals rock...

I use flats on all my bikes and most of them are mounted with LowPro's.

I ran Tioga MX pedals for a while - love the fact that their are relatively inexpensive, light, wide and very grippy...but the axle on them is pretty weak and they bend very easily.

LowPro's + 5.10 = Teh Win

Default Do not waste your money

Yes, 2 rides and in the trash they went. They do not stick as promised. I slipped a pedal on the first run. They are also very stiff in the toe bed and they press in to the top of your foot and cause great pain. I even tried to wear them as regular street shoes and they never broke in!!! Do not waste your money!!!

I have discovered that there is NO SUBSTITUTE for Five Tens. I am on my 5th pair!!!

looks like they copied the 510 soles.
I have been using the Crank Bros 5050x (with the cone shaped pins) and Five Ten shoes for the last 2 years. Nothing else compares!!! Your feet stay where you put them (even when jumping).

I am currently using Wellgo MG-1's! Very satisfied with them! Pac Man is correct- the paint does rub off who cares. Super light. Strong. Smack boulders with them. Dinged them. Jumped on them- not a single problem to date!

I purchased them at Adrenaline form "The King of All Knuckleheads" Gabriel Zink! Tell him Dino sent you..... will probably ADD 20% to the price!

DenMother- Thanks for the advice on the Taki's. I planned on purchasing them this weekend! NOT! Looks like I will be purchasing 510's!!! Grrrracias!

Ohhhhhhh Shhhh

On second thought...... Even if I did bust an MG-1, the "self-pedaling" feature on my Iron Horse would ensure I made it home safely! For all others, let that be a lesson to you- MG1's can break!

Marshall- If you can bust these, I wil buy you a beer!

I've got a pair of those too. Incredible traction, but they weigh almost 2lbs for the pair. Perfect for a freeride bike, like an Uzzi, for example.

There all pretty much the same, some stronger then others. As long as they have a concaved platform and some good studs they'll work just fine ( if you want an ex. of a bad pedal look at the Crankbros 50/50). If your going to be hitting and bashing them on the rocks, don't spend too much. If your going to be hucking 10 footers drop some cash and get some with a reputable rep, and yes get the 5tens.

Was that "knee-to-the-nuts" directed at me?

about a month ago i noticed sharky wearing some 5.10's and knew alot of you were. i bought some. well your all nuts! i just didnt like them... i gave them to my brother. i really like my 1999 model atomlab' trail kings. pins are long and you can buy replacements @ the hardware store if need be. i dont hit rocks with them, so i dont know how they do in the respect.. i actually removed pins because i like to move around. if i didnt, i would run clipless. ah, and for shoes, i wear either vans with that old school waffle pattern (ross knows how well these work, simpson too?) or some nike 6.0.

You mentioned you like to move around on the pedals I'm guessing that's why you didn't care for them? Either way you always own that mountain Mr. Rocket!!
On the IH my fivetens stick like glue on my Crank Bros 5050's.

Default ok here I go

MG1s are very light. The bearings are smooth and reliable. Once in a dh race, I hit my MG1 on a rock. The body pretty much exploded. Pretty much all that was left was the spindle with some chunks of pedal body stuck to it. I am not the only one either.

I really like the feel of the spec lo pro mags. They have a great feel and they are very tuff. They are pretty light. The low profile helps with clearance. Most of the pins come through from the other side.

The new kona pedals that came out about a month ago. They are a little lighter than the lo pro mags, and the are even thinner an more lo pro. All of the pins come through from the other side. They are a more nuetral dark grey color too.

I have tried most, and most with sealed bearings feel similar. The Spec pedals stand out to me for feel, and I bet i would feel good about the new konas.

510s are key for sticking to the pedals. I also like the Shimano mp 90 shoes. They stick diferently but well. They do not have as much toe protection as the 510s, but they are more flexible, and you can feel the pedal a little more.

well, they fit a bit weird. but in all honesty, i hated their aesthetics the most. didnt dig them. and they didnt make me 10% faster like you said they would!

Did you try the 5050's with the shiny metal pins or the threaded pins? I thought they were junk till I tried a pair with threaded pins and they stuck like glue.

KOna pedals have a nice deep concave feels so much better than A-frames which are really flat...Wheelworld has kona prdals for 20.00 for the standard ones.

Both. I didn't notice much improvement with the more aggressive threaded pins. I have a nice scar from a slipped pedal thanks to them though.
