jason, you are the homie, but you and alan are killing us with the 'why dont you check out a chumba' in every single thread where someone is inquiring about a bike.
we have numerous industry people here on STR whom post on a regular basis without shoving their product/shop/brand down our throats.

About the whole Bontrager components falling apart, when CHUMBA spec'ed out our wheels, we had everyone in the company take a set, and put them on our personal bikes and ride them for several months before we agreed to use them in our build kits. That way, we knew they worked. As a small company of mtb enthusiasts, we try everything we sell beforehand even if it comes from a reputable manufacturer, to make sure everything performs best. And, we also look for value for our customers, if we can save our customers a dollar while bringing similar or even at times, exceeded performance, we will do it. Last, we always listen to our customers, and since we are usually always out riding with them, the feedback comes real quick. For instance, at one point, our riders thought that the EVO's seat angle was a little slack for all mountain, but perfect for freeride and light DH. So we split up the EVO, one into a freeride model, and one with a 72 seat angle for all mountain climbing. One thing I really hope for CHUMBA is that we always stay close to the riders, listen, and bring the best performing bikes to market in a value-added way.

If I am correct, the Chumba EVO is a frameset, while Trek used the EVO term on one single part of it's new EX bike, the rocker link. Trek's new suspension system is called R1-I, and consists of several different "nicknamed" systems. I do see your point on the use of that term without permission, but is it a trademark? To be honest I do not know the answer to that, just wondering. I hope you can see that they are not looking to take anything away here. In summary I do not think permission was needed in this situation, given the nature of the name, and how it was used.

chumba should also probably start going after mitsubishi for its lancer evolution, popularly referred to as an EVO. maybe also darwin, he may be getting a little bit close to stepping on their toes with his well known theories.

... just poking fun. I don't think I'll be mixing up an entire bike frame with a single part any time soon, so its not a big deal to me.

what really sucks is that Bontager has been dragged thru the mud- Keith B used to do things his own way (f-everybody mentality) and only make quality stuff. now, not so much. the name is getting slapped on every component trek-made regardless of quality.

Like most product lines that supply forks, stems, cranks, seatposts, etc....Bontrager makes low and high end...the higher end Bontrager stuff is very nice...if you look at the 1200$ Trek EX 6...yes you will be getting the lower end, heavier bontrager product...but what do you want for $1200...I see it with Specialized, Raceface, Coda, power tools, Easton.

I have to admit..the new carbon cranks from Bontrager look really cool but are not my first choice...they cheesed out on the chainrings!

But if a bike had everything I liked regarding price, frame, suspension, drive train and wheelset I wouldn't base whether or not to buy it on the small stuff I can upgrade in the future.

last i heard the standard production Chumbas ARE made in taiwan.. you can order a US made one, but even those at Chumba say that the quality is often better on the Taiwan frames and at a lower cost.

frames are great. My SIR9 is made in Taiwan and it is great.

If Chumpas are made in Taiwan then they are not Boutique

No different than Kona, Niner, etc...

Just to add to the Trek discussion - Here's a photo of the NEW Trek Fuel EX 8 I picked up a week or so ago. I finally got a chance to give it a good run up in BB Sunday.

Fox Float 130 RL w/air pressure, rebound, lockout, alloy steerer, 130mm
Fox Float RP2 w/ Pro Pedal, rebound, custom tuned
Bontrager Race Lite Wheel Set
Bontrager Jones XR, 26x2.2/2.25"; 120 tpi, folding

Front DR - Shimano Deore LX
Rear DR - Shimano Deore XT "Shadow"
Crankset - Shimano Deore LX 44/32/22
Cass - SRAM PG970 11-32, 9 speed
Pedals - Shimano M520, clipless
Wheelset - Bontrager Race Lite
Handlebar - Bontrager Race, 40mm rise, 31.8mm
Stem - Bontrager Race, 7 degree, 31.8mm
Headset -Cane Creek w/cartridge bearings, sealed, alloy
Brakes - Avid Juicy 5, hydraulic disc; 185mm front, 160mm rear rotor

Some of the Bonty stuff will get changed out as needed and as I feel like changing it - which should be anyday I'm bored. I already changed out the tires for some WTB Weirwolf front and Velociraptor rear. The handlebar has already been replaced with Easton EA 50. I had a bad experience with a Bonty bar and changed it out the day I got it home.

Very nice bike! After months of shopping and testing every bike I could touch I picked up a bike from "The Man" last weekend, well it was actually from the son of the man aka Gary Fisher.

How do you like the ride?!!

It did pretty good up in Big Bear this weekend. I need to play with the shock settings a bit to dial it in, but I had a blast trying get it right.

What GF did you get?

I agree with George, lets just stay on topic. Seriously did not mean to derail the thread or any other ones by any means - and I'll be more careful in the future.

I've always been on STR for the rides and the good people. I still support it for those reasons. : )

Had a Fisher Rig that I liked and a Sugar that I hated
