So I have alot of people finding out that i do indeed remove the SPV system in manitou designs.A couple things to consider, we take out the SPV system to address its durability, and simplicity. I can do this on rear dampers whether coil or air, as well as 30mm forks and 32mm.What you get is a shimmed tuned damper with speed sensitivity and perfromance to match. After countless forks and shocks I now have TTTTTTTOOOOOOO much inventory of these parts and am in turn passing on a huge discount to fellow STR patrons who might be interested in a better feeling suspension design.I will take 30% off until inventory decreases substantially.:bang:

After an impressive collection of results on 29-inch wheels in 2009, the Subaru-Gary Fisher Mountain Bike Team will go “all 29, all the time” in 2010.

Getting all the riders on the team onto big wheels “was a meandering process” that started last season, according to Travis Ott, Gary Fisher brand manager. Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski won the national cross-country and marathon championships, as well as the inaugural Pro XCT, on Fisher’s Superfly. Sam Schultz, meanwhile, was a 29er convert as well.

“For them, 2009 was about incorporating 29er full-suspension into their quiver,” said Ott. “Both [riders] found advantages in the Superfly 100 under certain circumstances.”

For his part, Horgan-Kobelski said he didn’t have a 26-inch bike built for 2009.

“Even in 2008, I only raced a few races in the first half of the year on the 26-inch bike,” he said. “So it’s already been a year and a half of full-time 29er riding for me. I don’t even own any 26-inch mountain bikes.”

Soooooo......after searching the forums for tales of Bontrager Race Lite spoke failures and seeing reports in many countries of numerous spoke failures and cracking at the eyelets for all variants of Bontrager Roadie Aluminum rims going back several years...cleaned mine up to the point of sterilization and found my own cracks on both front and rear in several places.

160lbs, 5'-11", 9k miles on the rims, all spoke breaks on fronts, but cracking occurs on both front and rear.

I'm looking for a wheel that will be durable enough for double-century rides (my times are around 12hrs, so I'm quick over that distance) and quick enough for the occasional crit/road race (Cat 5...can't sprint). I'll continue using my Aksium w/ no-flat strips as my training wheels on the Madone 5.2.

Seen good reviews about the value and durability American Classic 420 and Sprint 350 wheels and the SRAM S30 AL series, as well as their service, but does anyone here have experience with them, or know of a shop in OC (I'm in Irvine but willing to ride to check out) that carries/services them.

I'm not going back to Bontrager, even to try to warranty them. It was fun enough staying in control when two spoke nipples popped at the eyelet on my front wheel when descending a road at 50 mph.

The Sheriff's Department has started ticketing illegally parked vehicles on Modjeska Grade Road, near the STT gate.

I saw a Deputy Sheriff up there a week ago, and asked him what was going on. He said he was handing out warnings to let people know they were parking illegally (near the top and on the right side of the road.

I told him how popular the trail is for bicyclists, hikers, runners and even dog walkers, and that its especially crowded because of all the rain closures in the parks. I also pointed out that there is a huge ditch in the 'legal' parking area, and asked if he could notify Public Works. He said that he would, and I thanked him and headed up the trail.

When I got home, I emailed the County about the issue. I also emailed Supervisor Bill Campbell. My feeling is that the current 'allowed' parking is insufficient to handle demand, and dangerous because of location and lack of signage.

Anyway, I was back up there yesterday and there were 4 vehicles parked illegally, and they all had tickets.

This doesn't directly impact a lot of us because we're parking at Cooks and riding a Luge loop.

But: 1) Where will we park if Cooks stops allowing us to use their parking lot? 2) What about the people doing out-and-backs from the top of the grade? 3) Why shouldn't the people who are parking legally be provided some kind of signage to remind drivers to SLOW DOWN, and 4) Why shouldn't this popular county and national forest trailhead have adequate, safe parking???

Beer can be good for the bones, researchers have discovered. In fact, some types of beer are so rich in dietary silicon that their regular intake can cut the chance of developing diseases like osteoporosis.

So, while supping pints of your average lager like Wife Beater or Kronenberg will simply get you sozzled, downing ales containing higher levels of malted barley and hops can get you sozzled and boost your bones allowing you to survive that inevitable stumble into the gutter on the way home.

According to the study by researchers at University of California, beer is a good source of dietary silicon and around half the silicon in beer can be easily absorbed by the body.

The researchers quaffed up to 100 different beers and studied production methods, publishing their findings in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture.

A spokesperson from the the National Osteoporosis Society, confirmed that previous studies found that some alcohol consumption could be beneficial to bones.

Charles Bamforth, lead author of the University of California, said, "Beers containing high levels of malted barley and hops are richest in silicon.

"While most of the silicon remains in the husk during brewing, significant quantities of silicon nonetheless are extracted into wort and much of this survives into beer," he added.

The National Osteoporosis Society recommends those of us with bones do not increase their beer intake on the back of these findings. Switching from lager to real ale could help though, we humbly suggest.

A separate study published today gives boozers more pause for thought. Research from the US Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention organisation suggests that drinking two or more soft drinks per week doubles the risk of developing pancreatic cancer
