Driving through Orange yesterday I passed a bike shop hadn't noticed before (OrangeCycle) and then this morning passed a truck on Beach Blvd for bike shop in Venice (Bike Attack). never been to either, anyone familiar with these shops and rep?

ORange Cycle has been around for 30 years. PRices are not great. Service is not thier strong point. We get a lot of people that bought their bike there, but refuse to go back to deal with them for service.

I concur, back in my neophyte days I went in there in 2001. The vibe isn't good, the prices for parts and service were high. Much much better bike shop options around Orange like the Path, Adrenaline, or Switchback. But if you need a rusty used cruiser, Orange Cycle maybe your place because I believe they keep a rack of beater bikes outside they try to sell.

haha, cr@p prices and poor service. makes for a great sales prop only think better would be if that had no inventory (or even better just sold turners..hahaha j/k)

Guess if they had a ride team all the guys would be slow and have no skills (damn, that's me )

i stopped by orange cycle on sunday to see if they had any new trance x's there. before i even walked through the door, one of the employees/owner? was yelling at some kids.. they seem to sell a bunch of cruiser bikes and the like... don't think i'll ever go back there

Orange Cycle has been around forever. They are the shop you would go to for your kids small bikes and cruisers. Very limited selection on parts, especially high end stuff. You can, however, find good deals on leftovers since they have a big inventory and move a lot of units. Big on Specialized and Giant.

Speaking of kids bikes & cruisers...Orange Cycle is where we purchased 3 cute girls bikes at a reasonable price..One of them is a cruiser and pink. It's Maddie's most favorite bike.

It was a good shop for that..Personally I shop somewhere else for everything (except kids bikes), including great customer service (but i'm biased).

I've avoided this shop because of the bad reviews on the web, but my wife insisted we go there a few times. It's conveinent for us as we drive by the shop frequently. The old guy, I think his name is John, I avoid him, BUT Al is great and there is a mechanic, I forget his name, who has given us great customer service.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks most of the employees are in need of a course in customer service and anger management. Thumbs down to this shop.

Im curious if the guy that manages this place is the same guy that manages Dons Cyclery in Tustin.... I used to wrench for him in Irvine back in the day and the guy was the biggest a$$hole to everyone that walked in to the shop... he treats you like your a dip sh*t and looks down on you....

I went into Dons when I first got my mountain bike and heard his voice and I said "no way" sure enough turned around, saw the guy, then promptly walked out of the shop....

Just thought I would throw in my mini review of the place.

I actually bought my bike from them and was helped out by the daughter of the owner as well as Al (who i think is a mechanic also). They were both really nice and helpful. Al spent about an hour with me answering all my stupid questions about the difference components, brands, etc (hence the Certified Newb thing). They were priced higher then a few other places on the bike I wanted, but they did beat the lowest price I was able to find.

I'm actually going by there today to have them look at an issue I'm having with my front suspension. So we'll see how helpful they are when it comes to customer service after the sale has been made. I will keep you guys posted.

Heres the latest update:

I dropped the bike off on Wednesday morning to have them repair an issue with the front suspension (the adjustment screw just spins and doesn't completely tighten). When i got there the guy said it was an easy fix and it was just stripped. He said to come back tomorrow(Thursday) to pick it up. I called on Friday morning just to check if it was done before I drove 20 minutes to get there. Guy said it was done. Took off from work to go pick it up. Loaded the bike up and took it home. Got home and checked it, still wasn't fixed (I know I should of checked it while i was there

So after the ride on Sat. i noticed a strange noise coming from the rear of the bike. Sounded like a bearing or something. So since I was about 10 minutes away from the shop I just took it by then. He listened to it and said he would have it done by 5pm (It was about 12 at this point). I also mentioned the previous repair that wasn't completed and he said he would just take the part off one of the other bikes he had in inventory that way i didn't have to wait for the manufacturer to send it. Since I didn't feel like driving back to Orange from Fountain Valley twice in the same day I figured I would just go back today. I went back around 11 today to pick it up and when I get there he explained what the noise was and said they would NEED to replace the rear rim. So he runs to grab a new one and comes back and says they don't have any rears that match mine so they will just have to replace the front and rear. They tell me to come back at 5pm and it will be done.

So 4 trips and nothing is finished yet. I'm happy everything is being fixed for free under warranty, and everyone I have dealt with has been very nice, but I'm tired of being told it will be done by a certain day/time and showing up a day after it was said to be done and still have nothing finished. Oh well, thats my rant. Calling first doesn't work because I'm told its finished when its not. So I'm not sure how to go about it this time because I definitely don't want to drive up there again to be told "come by tomorrow and it will be done"

Orange Cycle is a family owned Business ( John Sr and John Jr ) they cater to all types of riders from the beginner to the expert who may need a a knick nack or two , Unlike The Path or Adenaline , their open on Sundays !!! they are big on specialized , cruisers , roadbikes , kids bikes , always stocked in bike tools and numerous cleaners to spit shine your rig . They also service OPD bike patrol , which you dont see to often , but its nice to know the idea exists . All of theses shops in Orange have something unique about them , thumbs up to Orange Cycle

Steve - Pretty sure Adrenaline services OPD bike patrol. We've got the special "get out of jail free card" (jk).Haven't you been there when they brought their bikes in?

Yea , I've seen a opd bike or two at adrenaline , I think that's great , would love to see them roaming the streets more often in OC

If you go to Orange cycle, ask for al. Very good mech, the only one who actually rides.He will always hook you up if you deal with him.

I went on a bike hunting trip today and was more impressed with Orange Cycle then Switchback. O.C. had at least twice as many bikes as Switchback. I was greeted by two different employees at OC and none at Switchback. The OC bike prices did seem a bit high though and they did have a ton of clothes and accessories. There were several kids in the store as well which were bouncing off the walls.

Im sure that everyone here, including myself, would get very very very tired of telling kids to stop messing around on the bikes and not to ride them in the store. I can certainly respect anyone who has the patience to deal with that stuff 7 days a week.

I will certainly give Switchback another try since ive read so many good things about them.

I bought my 1st mtn bike from them...price may have been high but seemed ok at the time(newbie) from then on I rarely go in b/c of the customer service lacks...Al seems like he's bothered by being asked questions/comparisons and 90% of the time he seems grumpy(maybe b/c they are busy and he's the only who really works)....They do have a larger selection of bikes compared to Switchback but the service(mechanical) and customer service is better at SBC...

Since this weekend was the VQ/CC the staff at Switchback may of been thin...definately give them another shot...

orange cycle's Al is a nice guy. I bought my specialized langster new york from them at a gd price. u can sometime find a great deal on past year model.

Well I have read all of your complaints, compliments and tales. I have 1 thing to say that I manage a bike shop, Incycle in San Dimas, I must admit that one thing that I have learned that customers are the reason why we have shops. Every store out there can get you the parts you want need or desire but why come back if you cant supply the customer service, and quality repairs and the owner and my self demand that from our staff. Selling you the bike is not what were want it is the friendly halpful service to come back to. thanks for all the stories!!!
