Angry Performance Sorrento Valley or Take my LBS -- Please

Now I know it's Performance, so they're naturally not going to be as good as others, but really it's the most conveniently located LBS for me. Also, they talked me into getting one of those stupid membership cards.

I went in yesterday to pick up one BB7 for the back so I could use the points to buy another for the front today. They have the 07s for 50 bucks. They didn't have a rear one. They only had one front with the cleansweep rotor (which isn't 07 is it?). I was concerned about being able to locate another one with cleansweep, so I decide 10 bucks more for 08 isn't so bad. They don't have the rear 08 either. Jesus. So I bought one front and ordered the rear online.

Poorformance has a delivery option of sending it to your LBS. It's free, so I though "what the hell". I got a confirmation last night on my order:

Quote:
All in-stock items will be sent free of shipping charges to our Sorrento Valley, CA store at 11675 Sorrento Valley Rd.. Estimated arrival date: 03/18/08.
What???? I have to wait 3 weeks???? I'll just buy one from BB then. So I ask to cancel:

Quote:
Hi,

If this order is really going to take almost four weeks for delivery, I would like to cancel. I can't wait that long to have brakes on my mountain bike. If I knew it would take that long, I would have found another store that has one in stock (and does price matching). Also, the Sorrento Valley store shouldn't be out of rear 2008 BB7s. This is likely the most popular mech disc brake around.

Please confirm this cancellation with your name or some form of employee id.
The response:

Quote:
The arrival date that was given is estimated. It normally does not take that long for delivery. Unfortunately, the order has already processed and cannot be canceled.

Arrrrggghhhh!!!!

Performance is kinda sucky no doubt, relative to the smaller shops that know you, but now and they they do offer really great deals, and that membership card aint so bad, getting 10% back in store credit comes in handy during a bike build. Of course I drop coin in their pockets all the time...so I start to save up store creds like no other...having said all that the one in Sorrento is by far the worse Performance Ive been to. I only go unless I have to.

Dude, I feel your pain. That is the EXACT thing that happened to me when I ordered a bottom bracket for my old bike! I ended up cancelling and buying the BB elsewhere! With performance, I don't let them touch my bike and I make sure anything I buy is in stock. Other than that I would go elsewhere.

So it didn't take 3 weeks. They could have told me...

I use performance for stuff like riding clothes, cleaning supplies, and nutriton. They sell stuff in bulk/boxes unlike my LBS and always have good deals + the 10% back. Even if another shop does price matching the 10% back amkes it cheaper at performance

eh, at least you got that email.

A couple weeks ago I ordered a hitch rack that I was told would be there in March. Free shipping too. Apparently it came last week and I was never told until I emailed customer service asking why I was charged for shipping. She gave me a tracking number, only for me to find out it had been at the store for a week by then already delivered. I get to the store and they can't find it, so they give me one of their shelf. The whole time there I said I'd never be back.

I had the same experience. Ordered a hitch rack from them on Feb 13, read my email the next day and saw the "expected delivery date" of March 8th. Waited a few days to see if I could find anything online that could beat their price, couldn't, so i figured i'd wait.

Later I see that they charged me for shipping to their store, when the same email said free shipping. I email customer service asking why and also asking why it's taking so long if the item wasn't backordered.

I then get an email that says my item was shipped, and they gave me a fed ex tracking number.

I look it up and the item was shipped the week before, yet I was never told or emailed. I show up at the store with the order number, they don't have it nor do they recall ever getting it. They look it up and since it was a week later, either they shipped it back or put it on their shelves, they didn't know. They ended up giving me one from the shelves, which had i known initially, would have saved me the trouble online.

The trick is to print out an online price like from pricepoint and bring it in so they can match it. You get the part right away with no shipping and get 10% back.
