The bike I was looking at was clearly priced the same as Specializes MSRP on their website. I asked the sales guy forget his name (not Nelson) if they could sell it any less and he said that he could not. I asked him if it would go on sale during the labor day sale and he said no. So we went elsewhere and got a better deal. More than anything my service experience left a bad taste in my mouth since it questioned my trust for your mechanic and shop.

The reason for my post was to let others know of my negative experiences and was constructive criticism. Like you and I said no shop is perfect and I do not think one shop that has a thread on the bike shop reviews thread has 100% positive response rate. I appreciate bike owners who can come on here and explain their point of view since there is always two sides to the story. I would love this section if I owned a shop since you can get real world feedback that you probably would not get other wise. You also have the chance to address and correct any issues in your customers experiences.

We can't win them all, but please don't take offense if we have a higher price on something, simply ask us to match our competitor's price. In our current market environment, a shop can change pricing frequently based on mfgr price changes.

The sad part of this is that, for some cyclists, their loyalty is only as deep as the shop's discount. This is a two way street, though. We are extremely loyal to those who are loyal to us, and we try to win that loyalty every single day, and my belief is that loyalty should not be based solely on price.

Bajaguy, sorry you are upset with us. As for pricing to install King headsets, I think we were quoting you the price including facing your headtube. You don't want to install a King headset without that prep.

Thanks for listening,

I do appreciate the feedback, both positive and negative, rather than me riding around fat, dumb, and happy thinking the little world within the 4 walls of the shop is all rosey. So, thanks for the honesty. However, seriously, we don't mark bikes at MSRP, so I'm stumped as to what bike you are referring to. Every 2008/2009 is drastically discounted, and every 2010 is at "low retail", not the MSRP as stated on the Specialized website. I'm not saying you're wrong, believe me, just wondering where we screwed up. I will also use this opportunity to apologize for causing you to have a lack of faith in our Service Dept. We experience the other end of the issue you've experienced with us where we have customers complaining about other reputable shops after we've solved their problems more quickly, and for less money, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that it has happened to us. Not the way I'd like to hear it, obviously.

HBLocal, yes that was me. Maybe I did choose the wrong choice of words when I meant MSRP. It's just that the discounted price you gave me wasn't as appealing as what the path offered. I just found that your bike store has higher price tags(tags on bikes) and tends more towards the high end consumers so I didn't bother trying to negotiate further. My apologies if I caused any problems, I was simply making a quick review.
Thanks for the followup comments. Hope you're enjoying your Specialized bike(s). After all, we're all really just a bunch of cyclist going out to have fun and stay healthy, so I'm glad you found the deal you needed to accomplish those goals.

From all the bicycle shops I have been to this one stands out the most. I purchased a bike from Surf City Cyclery as a special order and it just came in yesterday : D. The customer service that I received from everyone at the shop was excellent. When I first walked into the shop I didn't get the feeling that I wasn't wanted because I was not going to purchase a bike right then and there. After looking around at a handful of shops in Orange County I ended up purchasing my bike here. I highly reccomend this shop to anyone. I definitely will be purchasing my next bike from Surf City Cyclery.

What bike did you pick up? I was starting to think I was the only DH'r that ever goes in there. I consider SCC my home shop. They are always greet you when you come in, and when you tell them your just looking around, they dont continue to nag you like a used car lot.

although i've never made a big (like a bike) purchase there yet, there never fail to give me great customer service and advice. i broke my brake pad off right before a ride last month. they put a new one on while i waited, which is typical for minor repairs. thanks.

Surf City Cyclery isw opening a new shop in Costa Mesa.
If it's anything like their location in HB, it's going to be a winner.

The owner Sean is a great guy, and they have always given me the best of service.
As it is only a couple blocks from my house, I will be checking it out on Wednesday.

Where in cm is that? It'd be nice to have something within riding distance other than the beach cruiser places, the poser fixie places and two wheels.

Default First Day Was Awesome!

The first day for the new Costa Mesa shop, which DOES have the ginormous liquor store Hi Times in the back yard, was tons of fun. Saw a bunch of regulars and lots of new customers from open-to-close, all day. Dan, thanks for the plug, and it was really good to see you after such a long time. Glad you're back on the bike! You should all stop by and say hello and check out our new digs. They're awesome! And yes, closer to the mountain bike trails than our HB location. Part of the plan....
Happy Trails,
Sean.

Wow, I can't believe Hi-Time is still there. It was there when I lived there over 40 years ago. I'll come down and check out the new bike shop this weekend.

Stopped by the Costa Mesa location, great looking shop, met a few of the people, I'll definitely be back (kind of nice that I work 1/2 mile away).

New shop is pretty sweet.

I was drooling over a carbon 29er hardtail they had by the front window.

Too bad I can't drop 3G's on a bike.

I had heard about Hi-Times years ago but never knew where it was. I was enlightened as to its location when I was negotiating the lease for the new shop and opened the back door to see what the back alley looked like. "So that's where that place is!", I thought. Almost made me wish I hadn't quit drinking over 6 years ago. But they have a killer cigar selection, so at least I can still be their customer.

I just got my new SJ 29er from Surf City Cyclery yesterday. Sean was great to deal with and hooked me up w/ everything I needed. Since all the technology has changed from my old bike, Nelson gave me the run down on what I needed to know. Big thanks to both of you and I can't wait to get on the bike!!!!!
